Professor Ken Casavant
for a forum on
“Transportation: Economic Incentives and Infrastructure in SW Washington”
at the
WSU Vancouver Campus

This forum will consist of two 15-20 minute presentations, and then dialogue with the audience. Prof. Ken Casavant’s talk is entitled “Moving It All: Supplying Transportation Capacity to Meet Regional Needs.” His talk will focus on the big picture of transportation in the region and the need for solutions to move goods and services on our rails, rivers and roads. Chancellor Dengerink’s talk is entitled “Perspectives on the Interstate Bridge from Many Vantage Points.” The Chancellor will focus on the discussions and research coming from the Columbia River Crossing Task Force. He will cover topics including the implications of the bridge choices on the future of Southwest Washington and Oregon and on their residents’ quality of life.
Bios:
Chancellor Hal Dengerink is co-chair of the Governor’s appointed bi-state task force to propose solutions for the congestion of the Interstate Bridge (Columbia River Crossing Task Force). He has led WSU Vancouver since 1989, providing overall leadership and guiding campus growth. Hal is active in the Vancouver community, serving on the Board of Trustees Clark United Providers, the Board of Directors of Columbia River Economic Development Council, and Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce.
Professor Ken Casavant is in the School of Economic Sciences at Washington State University. He is a nationally known transportation economist, and has published over 100 articles and given over 300 presentations, including testifying before state legislatures, regulatory bodies and U.S. Congress, leading to public debate and understanding by all sectors of the economy of the crisis of freight mobility. Ken has consulted widely on transportation economics and policy, including for USDA, USDOT, USAID, Canada Grains Council, Interstate Commerce Commission and US Army Corps of Engineers.
