Requirements for Minors

The School of Economic Sciences offers five different minors.  Any one of these minors adds a breadth of understanding to a student’s major, and increases your marketability, as well as providing a strong basis for further study in areas that use economics, including business, policy analysis and other social sciences.

A student may minor in economics by completing 18 hours of economics, nine of which must be the 300-400 level, with an overall GPA of at least 2.0 in the required courses. You may apply for the minor in Hulbert 101. You must have completed 60 hours and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5. At least four of the courses, including at least two upper division courses, must carry grades and grade points from WSU. Deviations from the stated requirements must be approved by the Director of the School of Economic Sciences.

*EconS 198 is listed for Honor students.

It is desirable that 16 hours become an integrated package.  Students are expected to work with the School's advisor for minors (Karla Makus) to obtain approval of courses taken prior to enrollment.  Courses taken Pass/Fail will not count towards the 16 hours requirement in Agribusiness.

It is the student's responsibility to complete form REGIS109, "Petition for Certifying a Second Major or a Minor" and obtain required signatures from Karla Makus in Hulbert 101. The School will then certify that requirements for the minor have been met.

**Only three hours of EconS 496, 497, or 499 may be used to fulfill either of these requirements.

A total of 6 hours of transfer work may be counted toward a minor requirement for courses at the 100 or 200 level only. All other course work must be taken at WSU.

Note: Minors in specific options (e.g., Marketing, I Bus) are not available.
